Leisure Swim in Toronto

Leisure swim is the City's catch-all for unstructured pool time: no lanes, no instructor, just swimming. It's the single most common drop-in program Toronto runs, and every indoor pool schedules multiple sessions a week. The City splits it into a few flavours — plain Leisure Swim (all ages), Leisure Swim: Preschool (shallow-end time for under-5s and a caregiver), Leisure Swim: Adult (18+, usually quieter), Leisure Swim: Family, and Leisure Swim: Older Adult. If you want to actually swim laps instead, look for lane swim.

Cost

$3–$6 drop-in for adults, less for children and 60+. Free at the City's free-centre network.

Common questions

What is the difference between leisure swim and lane swim?

Leisure swim is open, unstructured pool time — you can float, play, or wade. Lane swim is roped into speed lanes for continuous lap swimming. Many pools schedule both at the same time in different parts of the pool.

Do children need to be supervised?

Yes. The City requires children under 6 (and weak swimmers under 10) to be within arm's reach of a caregiver aged 16+ in the water. Ratios are posted at every pool deck.

Is there a preschool-specific swim?

Yes — "Leisure Swim: Preschool" is shallow-water time reserved for young children with a caregiver, usually on weekday mornings when the pool is quiet.
