Zumba & Dance Fitness in Toronto

Zumba is one of the most reliably fun rooms in the whole City system, and the crowds are wonderfully mixed — every age, every fitness level, plenty of people who have been coming to the same Tuesday class for a decade. No dance experience is needed and nobody is watching you; the instructor cues from the front and you follow along as best you can. The City also runs Zumba Gold (lower impact, designed for older adults), Cardio Dance, and specialty formats like Afro and Soca Fusion at select centres.

Cost

$4–$9 drop-in. Free at the City's free centres. Covered by a FitnessTO membership.

Common questions

Do I need dance experience?

No. Zumba is built around repeating simple movement patterns. First-timers spend the first class half a beat behind and that is completely normal.

What is Zumba Gold?

A lower-impact version choreographed for older adults and anyone easing back into exercise. Same music, gentler movements, more time to learn each pattern.

What should I wear?

Comfortable clothes and supportive shoes with a smooth sole — running shoes with heavy tread can grip too much when you pivot.
