Spring 2026 Toronto Recreation Registration: Everything You Need to Know
Published 2026-03-05 by the GetMovingTO team.
Spring registration season in Toronto is kind of like a sport in itself. Thousands of residents set their alarms for 7 a.m. on registration day, refreshing the City's booking system and racing to snag spots in popular classes before they fill up. If you've been through it, you know the adrenaline. If you haven't, consider this your crash course.
The City of Toronto released the spring 2026 recreation activity listings in early February, and registration has already opened in stages across the city's four districts. Spring programs kick off the week of March 31 and run through the end of June, with over 14,000 classes and activities on offer.
Key Dates for Spring 2026
If you haven't registered yet, here's what you need to know. Early Local Registration, available at the City's free-access centres for eligible residents living nearby, opened on February 24. Older adult registration (ages 60+) began on March 2 at 10 a.m. General registration for everyone else opened on March 3 at 7 a.m. for Etobicoke York and Toronto East York, and March 4 at 7 a.m. for North York and Scarborough.
Registration remains open on a rolling basis until programs fill up, so if you're reading this after those dates, there may still be spots available, especially in less popular time slots or at centres that are slightly further from downtown.
Tips for a Successful Registration
Create your account now if you haven't already. The City launched a new registration and booking system in late 2024, and most residents need to set up a fresh account even if they had one in the old system. Family and client numbers are no longer used.
Build your wishlist before registration day. You can browse the full catalogue at toronto.ca/springrec, add your preferred programs to a wishlist, and then quickly check out when registration opens. This is especially important for competitive programs like swimming lessons, popular fitness classes, and kids' camps.
Be ready at 7 a.m. sharp. The most in-demand programs, learn-to-skate, swim lessons for kids, and popular fitness sessions, can fill within the first hour. If you can be logged in and ready to go right when registration opens, your chances are much better.
Have a backup plan. Know your second and third choices in advance, because if your top pick fills up. You don't want to be scrambling. Check if there's a waitlist option and sign up for it, spots do open up when other people cancel.
What If You Missed Registration?
Don't worry about it. Seriously. Registered programs get all the attention, but drop-in classes are available all season long with no registration required. Many of the same fitness formats, yoga, Zumba, spin, aquafit, strength classes, are offered as drop-ins at centres across the city.
This is where GetMovingTO really shines. While the registration race is happening, you can pull up the app and find drop-in classes that start immediately, with no waitlist and no stress. Want to try a new activity while you wait for a registered spot to open up? Drop-in is your answer.
I actually prefer this approach. I use registered programs for the one or two activities I know I'll do every week without fail, and I fill in the rest of my week with drop-ins based on what's available and what I feel like doing. It gives me structure and flexibility at the same time.
The Spring Lineup
Spring programming covers the full range: fitness and wellness classes, sports instruction, swimming at all levels, dance, arts and crafts, gardening groups, and leadership training. There's programming for toddlers, school-age children, teens, adults, and older adults. Adapted programs for people with disabilities are also available, with smaller class sizes and additional support.
For fitness enthusiasts, spring is a great time to try something new. The weather is improving, the energy is shifting, and the program variety is at its peak. Whether you've been meaning to try Pilates, want to get back into swimming, or just need something to shake up your routine, spring has options.
Check GetMovingTO to browse what's available near you, both registered programs and drop-in classes, and start your spring right.
